My bike just got stolen, along with my backpack which had Making Good Shape in it. DAMMIT! My life has just gone to detritus lately, over and over and over again. |

Sorry to hear about this. Call the local used bookstores if you have time. The thief may be dumb enough to try to sell it. Not only might you get your books back, but most states require that the seller present ID when selling to a used bookstore and this may be enough to recover the bike too. |

fwiffo - sorry to hear this. More than losing the actual monetary value, if you're like me, this just "gets" you. Really annoying. I just remembered my backpack also had some pay stubs in it, and those have my social security number. ![]() It's just been one thing after another. My computer broke, and as soon as that got fixed, my monitor broke, And my sister is going through a divorce and financial difficulties and illness, and may need to borrow money. And my Dad has brain cancer, and my girlfriend has cancer and won't talk to me about it. And her mom just had emergency angioplasty and I've been working late at work every day because we're just overloaded right now. And just as I got home tonight, I found out lightning seems to have fried my DVD player. And no, I'm not exaggerating or making stuff up. All that detritus has happened to me in just the past couple months. I'm prepared for like one or two disasters at a time, but this is just too much. |

There's always the religious quote that I think of whenever I think life is too hard. I know it applies here. The quote is, "I never said it would be easy, I only said it would be worth it." Fwiffo, hang in there. I know things seem hard, but they WILL get better. Quote: things always can become worse Sure, but I've found that the opposite is also true, and happens more frequently (at least to me). |

What kind of bike was it? Make? Model? Color? And the backpack too. What kind was it? It is a long shot, but the more info is spread around, the better the chances of recovery. |

Thank you all for the well wishes. I really needed to vent. Every time I think "that's the last straw!" there comes another straw... The bike is a red 2007 Specialized Sirrus. I posted a picture of it in the the model in the driving thread. It's got some accessories attached; water bottle, LED headlight and tail-light, and Armadillo tires. The backpack has no value; it's a really, really old navy Eastman backpack with a leather bottom. It's got a big hole in the side actually. The only thing of any value in it was the book (which is like $18 from Kiseido). The only reason I'm worried about it is because of the pay stubs. |

It will be a pain in the short run , especially if you are applying for credit. But it will go a step toward preventing ID theft. |
