Post subject:  Some inspirational quotes. Enjoy!

First up is one of my new favorite quotes. It is often attributed to aikidō founder Morihei Ueshiba Ō-sensei, but it is more likely that Zhuge Liang, a military strategist from China's Three Kingdoms period (220-280 CE) first said it.

Those who are skilled at combat do not become angered. Those who are skilled at winning do not become afraid. Thus the wise win before they fight, while the ignorant fight to win.

Here is another one from Carl Von Clausewitz, a Prussian (i.e., of Prussia, a European territorial empire that occupied the area forming present-day Germany and much of present-day Poland until the 1930s) military strategist from the late 18th and early 19th century.

The enemy of a good plan is the dream of a perfect plan.

Finally, here are eight I made up. (Forgive their lack of eloquence.)

The pain of exhaustion is like the pain of childbirth. It heralds the arrival of a new beginning.

Experience is the father of reason. Faith is the mother of reason.

In life, you are free to do as you please - and so is everyone else!

Of course I have balls! My wife keeps them in a jar at home.

Of course I have the guts! Just look at the big brown stain on the wall.

Only weak men are afraid of strong women.

A woodpecker pecks away at the wood to get his reward.

As I am stupid, I spend endless hours trying to increase my intelligence.

"Between two evils, I pick the one I've never tried before."

-- Mae West

(You can probably figure out a way to apply it to Go.)

It's probably a good quote for go - maybe if you're in a difficult situation, and no move you can think of seems good. Pick the one you've never tried before, and learn something!

Lately I have constant internal exhortations to "fix up your shape". I'm pretty sure it's Nick Sibicky talking in my head, but he's doing it in Dizzee Rascal's voice.
