The team of the European Go Journal is preparing the August edition.

In this topic, I will publish some news regarding the content that we plan to include.

Here we go.

The Dutch Open took place from July 30th until August 1st in the Hague, the Netherlands.

The winner was Jonas Welticke 6d from Germany. In the August edition of the European Go Journal, you will find a short interview with Jonas regarding his experience of participation in the Dutch Open.

In the photos you can see Jonas hypnotizing the position on the board. In the second photo, judging by the position on the board, it seems like we can see the consequences of one of the favorite fusekis of Jonas Welticke - imitation go, mirroring the moves of the opponent (aka mirror go).

On August 15th, Ilya Shikshin 4p played against Ryan Li 3p in the first Transatlantic Professional Go League (TPGL) final. The format of the final was the best of three.

In the first game, Ilya had the black stones and resigned after 176 moves.

The second game lasted 329 moves. Ryan Li, playing Black, won by one and a half - what an intense battle it was!

Ryan Li 3p won the first TPGL final with a score of 2-0.

In the August edition of the European Go Journal, you will find a review of the second game between Ilya and Ryan and a short interview with Ryan Li on his impressions after the conclusion of the League.

Shin Jinseo 9p and Byun Sangil 9p finished playing two Korean tournaments' finals this month: the 26th GS Caltex Cup and 44th Myeongin.

The first four games of the 26th GS Caltex Cup final were played in July, and the score was 2-2. Shin Jinseo won the fifth game played on August 2nd, thus winning the tournament as well.

The Myeongin was played in a double-elimination mode this year. The first round was played in March, and ironically Byun Sangil 9p was paired up against Shin Jinseo 9p. Byun Sangil then sent Shin Jinseo to knockdown by defeating him... And then they both won all the remaining games, so Shin Jinseo came back for Byun Sangil to the final.

The 44th Myeongin final was played as a best of three on 5-7 August - only in three days after the final of the 26th GS Caltex Cup concluded. Byun Sangil started promising by winning the first game, but, unfortunately for him, he lost the following two games, and Shin Jinseo won the 44th Myeongin as well.

In the August edition of the European Go Journal you will find a review of the third and decisive game of the 44th Myeongin final.

Photo by Hangame: after the last game of the 44th Myeongin final. Byun Sangil 9p is on the left, Shin Jinseo 9p is on the right.

We talked with Manja about her experience of running the JIGS, how she started to play go, a little about science, and about many other things!

In June we started a new chapter series in the European Go Journal, called "Favorite Place to Go". The idea behind it is to encourage our readers to share their go-playing experiences with others – as you can tell from the title.

This month Nataliia Rusanovska from Ukraine tells us about a beautiful place in Kyiv, on the banks of the Dnipro river. Nataliia has a summer house in the area, and she even founded a go club called "Tengen" that meets there.
