Hey everyone. I've been a part of L19 for awhile, but for those of you who don't know me, I'm David Glekel, a college student from New York. I'm making this post to announce something that I think is really exciting. I'm part of a team that's making something called the Surrounding Game. This is the go documentary that my friends and I have been dreaming of making for some time now. With the American pro system launching this year, all the pieces fell into place to finally put this plan into action. We've been covering the pro qualifiers all year, and will be at the Congress. Afterwards, the plan is to go to China and Korea for the ing cup as well as to check out insei schools. But we need your help! We have the team and we have the passion, but we're short on funds. You can find our trailer and much more information about our project, as well as the opportunity to support it, here: http://www.kickstarter.com/projects/175 ... ntary-film. This has been a dream of ours for a long time, and we hope this could be our big chance to finally get go the exposure and attention it deserves. Please help! |

Hey Jedo, great idea. The short film you guys made for your Kickstarter page is really good and the timing does seem to be right. I hope you guys are successful. We've just donated some money and sent you email asking if you'd like to write something about this for Go Game Guru. Please think about it and let me know. |

I have been unable to view the short movie on the Kickstarter page. I've recently been having problems with other flash videos, so I'll have to find the problem and fix it eventually, but could you upload it to youtube? I seem to be able to watch youtube videos when othher flash videos fail. Edit: Hmm, nevermind, seems it was a problem with flashblock. I think I've fixed it now. ![]() |

It looks pretty well made to me, although I didn't quite get why you need $15,000. Maybe I missed a link though. Hope it works out |

They probably have quite a bit of travel expenses, if they're filming onsite in China and Korea, they mention film equipment, there are some promotional things related to the kickstarter project (which kickstarter expects you to do, afaik), though I guess those aren't that expensive. Then there are promotional expenses once the film is made. If I set my mind to it, I'm sure I could guess their budget and make them prove to me that it's really $15k, but I also doubt they're mentioning every conceivable expense. It's a cool project, it has some obvious expenses, and that's enough for me to put some money down. |

Even aside from that though, buying all the film equipment we'd need (we've been renting so far) is expensive, as is hiring a cinematographer as we plan to. |

I fell for the "Associate Producer" credit on IMDB. That won't get me a Bacon number though; they'd have to interview me for that. Dearly like to have a Bacon number, a Shusaku number and an Erdos number. Only got the middle one so far. |

Is there someone with a verified Erdos-Bacon-Shusaku number? John Nash might be a candidate. |

One thing that amused me in the otherwise good trailer is the continued statements about Go being the best game in the world. It is no doubt great, but I've seen so many competitive games with their own kind of beauty (and surprisingly many takes on one kind of beauty - parallels from game to game are fascinating to find) and challenges that labeling one as "the best" just seems silly. Otherwise a good trailer and hopefully well-earned funding. I can only wish you luck in your endeavour. |

AKaios wrote: Seriously can't wait for this! Is it already released? I have a feeling I may be behind. http://www.surroundinggamemovie.com/en/ is their website. A brief summary on where the project stands(as I see it, I'm not a team member of anything though so take this with a grain of salt). They have all their filming from China, Korea, and U.S. And could basically start editing/compiling right now to make the film. However they want to try to up the scale and have added another fundraising goal to make it closer to a professional project then an amateur one. The documentary will be finished regardless of how successful this second drive is though, so don't worry about that! |
