Cho Chikun Cup for all players

Post by Hsiang »

The popular event 42.195 Marathon Championship is coming up soon. The registration is now open. You have 42 days and 19.5 hours to play your games. See http://www.pandanet-igs.com/communities/pandanet/108 for details.

Those who who finish the Marathon with 300 points or more will receive certificates from PANDANET and also will be in a drawing for Cho Chikun-signed diplomas.

That seems interesting. What's the significance of 42 days and 19.5 hours?
We don't know who we are; we don't know where we are.
Each of us woke up one moment and here we were in the darkness.
We're nameless things with no memory; no knowledge of what went before,
No understanding of what is now, no knowledge of what will be.

The official distance for marathon is 42.195 kilometers. By the way, this year will be the 12th time this event is run.

Wow, you must have an impressive winning percentage to even stand a chance of getting 300 points. correct my math if I am wrong, but if we assume that a given player will get 2 wins in a row 25% of the time, that makes 240 games in 19.5 hours. That is less than 5 minutes a game!

Spilling gasoline feels good.

I might be wrong, but probably not.

I may be wrong, but I thought it meant that you would have 19.5 hours of play time over the course of 42 days. I guess it is really 42 days with a partial 43rd?

So it is. I participated the last two years, so I know it from experience. However I was far from getting 300 games within these 42 days, 7 games a day is just too much for me (I just made a few dozens during that time).

The 19.5 hours is to make sure people actually sleep. You get 42 days of games.

Just a small correction: the playing time is 42 days, 19.5 hours. Sleep is optional and for the feeble only. ;-)

Registration is closed. Sigh.

Is there some sort of newsletter announcing these events? I'd like to sign up, next year.

All players with registered and ranked account received messages announcing the event. Shortly before and during the registration period, log onto IGS and you would see the message.

Oh. That probably arrived while I was on honeymoon. I haven't signed in to IGS since my return.
