I'm sorry that you are inconvenienced by trying to run all that free software that people spend lots time to write.

as a note too, java is far more common then a lot of people realize, Goproblems is one site I can think of offhand that is mostly a java applet, And most android apps are java and run in a modified JVM.

Well, I am not sorry, that you can't make any money on your free apps, because Java programmers are poor programmers.

In general free apps don't make any money, regardless of how many people use them
SmoothOper wrote:because Java programmers are poor programmers.

This is a pretty big generalization, I still don't understand why you think this, or what you want to discuss

I am just defending my assertion that the technology that was chosen for KGS could be part of the reason it isn't making any money, stemming in large from the fact that Java programmers choose the technology in a convenient for the programmer mode, rather than shipping the best possible product. As you can see the Java community functions as a loosely knit semi-informed political organization that has an interest in purporting several untruths about what Java is and what its performance and requirements are, so these conversations can drag on.

It is an absurd assertion. I challenge you to find anyone who didn't sign up for KGS+ because KGS runs java.

To my knowledge, the Java community is just people who like to program in Java, and help others who do the same. I see no evidence of any political nature to it. Judging only from this thread, the one who is purporting untruths about java is you.

Java is much slower especially if you use objects, and also uses much more memory, and really isn't cross platform because there are all these little problems between platforms. I would be satisfied with that being accepted as fact, however some Java troll will come along and scream bloody murder Java is as fast as C, and id defined as being cross platfrom, and the only way to prove them wrong is to dig through the manuals and even *cough* read the C code it was written and see that they introduce a bunch of indirections, but then they don't know C or what a point is but they know I must be wrong, so really these people can't be bothered to reason about their code. Meanwhile Sun/Oracle is more than happy to keep the performance bench marks out of the manual, which is the only authoritative source on Java, yes that is right a corporate's marketing manual is the only authoritative source.

And no one ever didn't use a program because it was written in Java that's, well another one for the Java crowd to spew.

Constructive.

SmoothOper and others: I just clicked the "report post" button and asked the thread to be split.

If there is to be a discussion on benefits and faults of java (one I think SmoothOper does not even care about, since he is set in his view), it should be held in a thread about it.
