This is a very sad story, but I thought I would post it here as the go player involved was very brave.

Sad story indeed so liking it feels a bit strange, but I appreciate the sharing. Condolences to the family and whole-hearted admiration for Mr. Macfadyen's bravery.

Re: Bravery off the board
I didn't even know the term 'weir' Apparently it is sort of a small dam.
wikipedia wrote:Even though the water around weirs can often appear relatively calm, they can be extremely dangerous places to boat, swim, or wade, as the circulation patterns on the downstream side—typically called a "hydraulic jump"— can submerge a person indefinitely. This phenomenon is so well known to canoeists, kayakers, and others who spend time on rivers that they even have a rueful name for weirs: "drowning machines"

Re: Bravery off the board
I'm happy enough liking a sad story if it shows off the finer side of human nature. Definite condolences go out to both the family and those that had to witness it

Re: Bravery off the board
Yeah, I agree with topaz. Obviously the 'like' applies only to the bravery of Mr. Mynott and Mr. Macfadyen, and not to the tragic rest of the situation.

Re: Bravery off the board
Apart from sadness I am also proud for two reasons. A go player being so brave and because Mathieu is my second name.
