After 9 months, 247 moves, and what must have been many many hours, perhaps even days, of thinking time on my part I have beaten breakfast in our game on OGS! :D :D :D :D :D :D :D :D

Edited to use nova OGS link

Congratulations!

I thought your result in the bottom right after White invaded was quite good, but the sequence from :b33: onwards felt kind of strange to me. Later on, your outside shape was very useful in chasing White. Did you plan this all along? =D

post scriptum: Was White 110 a mistake in the end? You cut if off quite easily and got a nice amount of points there.

Correct me if I'm wrong. White 244 is losing move. H11 then white wins

And then a move inside for semedori (which is gote)? It is better but my reading was black still wins, but by only 0.5 rather than 1.5.

Edit: in fact if you semedori directly you still lose by 1.5, you need to o16 sente first if you want to make it as close as 0.5.

I am sorry, my count say white can not lose. And he resign. Semedori will guarantee white win according to my count.

You think he still has a semedori? There is no semedori once I played h13. If he plays j14 then I h14 which makes miai of j15 and f14. It's a rather amusing shape in that when I capture f13 it looks like a false eye, but it avoids any seki or semedori, a weird sort of single-headed dragon.

But you can't H14, since white can atari at H12 (I'm assuming I've understood you correctly, and you've followed up Magicwand's original move at H11 with H13). So that's no defence. So what is your move after white H11?

In the above I assumed Magicwand was talking about the game variation in which I was the first to play in that area with h13. Then there is no semedori and I clearly win. His earlier suggestion of h11 for move 244 I answer at h12. Then white can play a move inside to set up a semedori in gote so I tenuki and play the remaining yose and believe I win by 0.5 (or 1.5 if you forget to o16 sente first). I'll put up an sgf with variations for the semedori once I've finished commenting the game sgf above (refresh to see them as I write them on OGS).

Well done! Never mind the nattering nabobs of negativism. They will always be with us, pointing out the might have beens. But in fact, the might have beens... weren't! :rambo:

Congratulations!

Very clever that you can comment the OGS game while still linking to the same sgf. At first I thought you were treating the three notes on the opening as your commentary...

  Wow, that was awesome. Congratulations.

Aside: Uberdude is EGF 3 dan. He just beat a pro player in an even game. Breakfast isn't the strongest pro, but he has beaten 9 dan pros in the past in real games. What does this say about the go knowledge gap between pros and strong amateurs? As Uberdude mentioned in another thread, he would not be an even match for Breakfast in a non-correspondence game (as evidenced by the difference in their EGF ratings). However, after mostly eliminating the difference in reading ability by having 1 day or more per move, Uberdude was a close match for Breakfast and even beat him. We have a sample size of one, but Uberdude and Breakfast just performed one of the most interesting natural experiments related to one of the persistent questions of the go world.

Congratulations, Uberdude.

Maybe now you can make your move in your Malkovich against MW.
