I've been playing a bit more recently (all online) and am interested in finding somewhere to play in person. I'm just west of Chicago, so pretty much anywhere around downtown ( or to the west) would be fine. I know there is ( or was ) a group in Evanston, but that's too far north. Ideally there'd be something at UIC or in the Oak Park area, but the club info I've found for those seem to be out of date. Does anyone know the current state of things?

Online playing schedule: Every tenth February 29th from 20:00-20:01 (if time permits)
I tried to get to the AGA web site to check and it was not loading for me. But last I heard there was an active club in Schaumberg, which is fairly close to Oak Park.

Still officially AGA 5d but I play so irregularly these days that I am probably only 3d or 4d over the board (but hopefully still 5d in terms of knowledge, theory and the ability to contribute).

Yeah, check out the Schaumburg Go Club, which I ran until I moved away about 6 months ago.

Online playing schedule: Weekends.
When I was a graduate student at the University of Chicago, not so long ago, there was a quite active Go club that met on Fridays. Not sure if it's still active though.

I'm going to a convention in Chicago soon, and will have a Sunday, Monday, and Tuesday evening free to play go. I'll be staying just south of the loop.
My plans look like this:

Sunday and/or Monday evening
Yong Yu Go Center Arlington Heights
UP-NW Metra train to Cumberland and then get a bus westward on Golf Rd

Tuesday evening
Lakeview Go club
Red line to Belmont, then walk or take a local bus eastward.

Any advice or suggestions are appreciated.

I had hoped to someday do a "Chicago Go Tour" of sorts where I'd hit up Lakeview (now Chicago) on Tuesday, Evanston on Wednesday, and then Schaumburg on Thursday. Is this still possible?

I was thinking of doing that over spring break this year, hopefully bring one or two other guys from my college club with me. Why would I want to spend my last spring break in Chicago playing go you ask? Because I'm just that awesome.

Certainly. Definitely going to be a lot easier if you have a car, otherwise you're talking the use of multiple separate mass transit systems, especially to reach Schaumberg.

Haha, spend your last spring break in Chicago doing other stuff, and just use Go as the evening relaxation activity. Icing on the cake, not the main event ;)

This appeared to be closed when I was there two months ago. Does anyone have updates on it?

The Center is closed. It's my understanding that the club there still meets a few doors down, in a place with no signage - but I'm not sure when.

Yeah, they don't seem to be making themselves easy to find...

Hey Aaron! Did you ask Mark to add the club to his page on Chicago area clubs?

I didn't, but I know he has to have been seeing my posts about it in https://groups.google.com/forum/#!forum/chica-go-clubs

I should do that. Thanks for the idea!

Hey! So I've lived in Chicago for about a year and am long overdue to join a Go club. I live in Humboldt Park, which is like *in* in Chicago. It seems that all of the active clubs are in suburbs on week nights, which unfortunately doesn't work so well for me. I'm wondering if there is anyone in the city who is interested in starting a club? I'm thinking more of a social meet up thing than serious and studious -- perhaps at a bar, or we take turns hosting with drinks and snacks and stuff -- on the weekend. If anyone is interested in something like this, drop me a line. Thanks!

Seriously no one? C'mon, somebody in Chicago has to enjoy drinking and playing Go! I know you're out there!
