KGS on a jailbroken ipad

Post by dohduhdah »

Has anyone managed to get KGS working on a jailbroken ipad?

I can't test it myself because I was stupid enough to upgrade to ios 7.1 and Apple
doesn't let you revert back to 7.0 after upgrading. So now I have to wait until the jailbreak
for 7.1 comes out.

I find this method hard to believe. iPads have ARM cpus, and the suggested download gets java is for intel processors. It's like trying to get orange juice out of a toaster.

I agree, and I was about to post that. You could be really clever and run an emulator, but it would be dog slow.

Anyways, it's theoretically possible but highly unlikely this would work.

Yup, impossible as straightforward as that. Of course, there are jvm's for ARM chips, so it's not totally impossible, but quite likely needs something more.

Anyway, wms is supposedly still working on that fabled html5 client. Hope lasts almost forever.

Should have been obvious from the start it's not going to work, but now that I've jailbroken
my ipad I can confirm it doesn't work.

If you want to play on KGS on iPad you should try app called AlwaysOnPC. Works very nice - full desktop KGS.

Hmmm, and these are unlikely to run on an ipad?

Would need to try it, but this line probably means "nah":
JDK 7 for ARM is supported on systems based on ARM v6 or ARM v7 running Linux
iPads/iPhones don't run Linux, but iOS. Of course, iOS is a quite close cousin of Linux, but runs a different kernel. It's highly likely that a JDK is tied to specific functions of the Linux kernel that XNU (iOS kernel) does not provide. So, this route is quite likely a nope.
