Most recent game

Post by cyndane »

Hi! Im looking for some advice, heres the most recent game I played. Some specfic questions:

Moves 14-20: good/bad, I felt nervous playing like this in the game.
40: too submissive?? I am hoping to get strong to attack blacks group here, so I wanted to fix my cuts
50-60: seems to leave blacks group happy, could have done better?
122: I regretted playing this after I clicked it
132: Should have saved my stones probably
140: I guess there is nothing here
After this I play poor endgame, and sneak out a win by 6.5

Here it is:

Thanks!

Just a few comments on the first corner and fight:
- if you want to counter pincer it's common to jump a 3rd time (though this is a local loss it helps the fight, but I heard Lee Sedol doesn't like it). But in fact with the black top right corner I don't like counter pincer, I'd rather do the big knight move in answer to the pincer and aim to settle locally.
-r3 is good, but r4 is somewhat heavy. Later, depending how the outside fight goes, you might want to s2 to offer a small corner life for getting cut. The time it's clear you want to pull back is when you are going to immediately settle the group (e.g. with the one space high pincer and attach under it and cut, in that case you don't make the 3rd jump).
-b19 was slack, should either r8 and fight or at least cover the cut in an active way with p6 which makes miai of r8 and p5. So for 20 just connect at r7, your 20 doesn't achieve much but his answer makes a nice shimari.
-Ditto 22 and 24, these moves give your opponent points when he answers and make not much of value for you (unless you can kill that black group in the middle! or otherwise find some profit from attacking it)

Some comments on the opening. :)

At 66 you were attacking 4 Black stones with no base in the center of the board. By 86 you were defending yourself against a massive Black position in the center of the board that was separating you into two parts. Don't worry about fuseki and so on until you fix up you fighting basics.

(BTW 86 was unnecessary, why?)

Thanks everyone for the advice

I've been aware for a bit that my middle game could use some work, as you point out. One of the interesting things about go is that there are so many different parts of the game to focus on. So I appreciate advice on any part of the game :D.

I can see now that black cannot get connected at all, and so 86 is wasted move. Thanks!
