Wang Chenxing's new opening

Post by brucosper »

She's played this in a couple of games from what I've seen. Interesting to say the least.

She was interviewed by a Chinese Go wensite. She said that the new opening was inspired by learning Go Seigen's games. She started using it in some informal training games, before using it in this year's rank promotion tournament. The only other game record I can find is:

Wang Chenxing used this opening in yesterday's Chinese Women's league:

As long as she keeps winning games, chances are she will use it again.

Very cool, I wonder how she chose that specific point? The gap between the two corner stones is ten lines, so if you were just splitting the gap evenly you'd pick one of the square points:

I have no clue, I wonder if she picked it based some specific sequences (maybe breaks some ladder?) or if it just felt right.
