how is the handicap rule in KGS?

Post by wakeupbuddy »

I am wondering, is there any reference page about the handicap rule used by KGS?

Like generally speaking, for a x-d user vs a y-p user, how is the handicap?

Thanks a lot/

Do you mean d for amateur-dan and p for pro ranks ? Or do you mean something else ?

For reference: Chinese pro ratings .

The stories behind pro ranks are a little more involved.

p accounts on KGS can't play ranked games. If you mean how many handicap stones would be needed to make it a fair game, that depends who the p is, there is quite a lot of variation in strength of professional ranks, but all but the weakest professional players, even 1ps, would be at least 8d ranked on KGS. For example Liu Yuanbo is a totally unremarkable Chinese 2p and his ranked account milanmilan is a strong 9d (and graph used to be 10d). A world class pro like Lee Sedol 9p could probably give 3 stones to a KGS 9d like Andy Liu (he beat him on 2 stones in a recent match before it was abandoned).

Don't state that opinion on KGS, uberdude. Recent fans of the Euro-pros will shout you down, and claim that there are active Asian pros that are only KGS 6d strength. It's very hard to reason with them.
