Snapback - serial novel

Post by wolfbutler »

Hi all! I'd love it if you checked out the first volume of my Go serial, Snapback.

https://mirthturtle.com/snapback

I don't want to give too much away, but it's about some high-school Go players who get swept off to a sinister Go academy.

Volume 1: Fuseki is out now, around 65 pages w/ illustrations. Takes about 45 mins to an hour to read. It's CAD $0.99 for the ePub & PDF versions, and I also have paperback copies for mailing out.

I'm editing Volume 2 right now & getting illustrations done for a September release. I'm planning for a total of 3-5 novellas, depending on how good the reception is.

My goal was to have it be accessible for non-players so they'd get interested in Go, but with enough solid Go content for long-time players too.

Let me know what you think! And if you like it, please tell your friends :)

Volume 1 is now free

It's been pretty hard to keep up with the volume of replies on this, but consensus seems to be that $0.99 is a hefty price tag.

So with the release of Volume 2 in just a month and a half, I've now decided to make the first book a free download. Have at it and please let me know what you think!

Assuming this is not a wind-up, did anyone explain why? At a pinch I can see that someone might not want to "waste" a dollar (if that's really how they see it) but "hefty"? Which planet do they people live on?

My experience is that the commonest reason for not supporting other people in any amateur community is not price tag or the product, but a kind of passive-aggressive resentment that a fellow amateur might actually make few pennies out of them.

Nah it was a wind-up. I heard nothing from anybody :) But payment of any kind is certainly a barrier, so I don't mind removing it for the first volume, which I was going to do eventually anyway. Especially if it means at least one person is going to read the thing.

It would give me far more pleasure to hear from a reader than it would to see a few dollars show up in my PayPal account.

I'm polishing up Volume 2 to go to the printers this week, but here's a preview of the back cover. I should have digital versions up in a couple of weeks :)

Snapback, Vol.2: Shimari

Post by wolfbutler »

I really dragged my heels on producing the ePub version for some reason. Anyway, Volume 2 is finally up! This one's a bit longer than the first volume, 80 pages & more illustrations. Hope you enjoy it :)

I've just downloaded volume 1. I liked it pretty much. Enough suspense to get me interested. I haven't finished it yet, but as soon as I do, I'll come back for a more detailed opinion. But still, nice job.

Hey Menezes -- just in case you finish Volume 1, I've added Volume 2 to your account, so you're free to download a copy. Thanks again for reading!
