Just playing and viewing

Post by chemit53 »

Hi, I am a newbee here because I have a question unsolved so far:

With a friend I am regularly playing 19x19 Go. Unfortunately, my friend is chronically ill and since recently he is laying in bed without ability to use his hands. We, however, would like to continue playing. What we need for playing - and currently not have - would be:
- an app running on iPad (to be connected to a TV screen for showing the game as we play)
- showing the board WITH COORDINATES as we have to communicate the next moves verbally only
- it would be nice if the program could handle compensation and scoring
- and would be free of charge or at moderate costs
That's it.

I am grateful for your hints
Thank you !

KGS also assessible on iOS/MacOS/Windows: KGS

If you don't need time control for 2 players, and only one person needs to play moves for both sides, then you don't need a Go server-client; you just need any decent Go viewer/editor, such as OGS, SmartGo (iOS) or MultiGo (PC x86 Windows only).

Thanks to all responders for their hints

@ Hades12:
How can I adjust pandanet that it indicates „ABCDE...“ and „123456..“ around the board on screen?

@ EdLee: I have got SmartGo already installed. How can I make it showing coordinates around the board while playing?

As my friend is handicapped we need to play „verbally“ by saying „Black on D4“ and „white on „M14“ while the non-Handicaped will enter the moves to the system. Showing coordinates on screen with the board like described above would seriously ease to Play this way.

You may want to test drive other viewers/editors, like OGS, for your preferences on coordinate font size, sound FX, and other stones and board aesthetics. :)
