I've seen in a few threads some comments about the differences in time limits between different tournaments, Specifically that Japanese tournaments tend to have longer times than international or other domestic tournaments. So I tried to find the actual time limits for as many as I could. This is what I found:
Japan Domestic:
Kisei, Meijin, Honinbo: League 5 hours, Title Match 8 hours
Judan, Gosei: 4 hours
Tengen, Oza: 3 hours
http://www.nihonkiin.or.jp/index-e.htm#pro
International:
Fujitsu: 3 hours
http://www.nihonkiin.or.jp/index-e.htm#pro
LG Cup: 3 hours
http://www.wbaduk.com/news/news_view.asp?menu_div=news&news_no=29
Samsung Cup: 2 hours
http://senseis.xmp.net/?SamsungCup
BC Card Cup: 2 hours
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/BC_Card_Cup_World_Baduk_Champhionship
Chunlan Cup: 3 hours
http://senseis.xmp.net/?ChunlanCup
Ing Cup: 3 hours
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ing_Cup
Korean Domestic:
GS Caltex Cup: 4 hours
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/GS_Caltex_Cup
Unfortunately, language barrier makes it difficult for me to find much information. Could someone help me find times for the big Korean & Chinese domestic tournaments/leagues? Also most of the wiki references are completely unsourced, so they could be totally wrong.
From what I've seen so far, the big 3 Jap. tournaments have the longest time limits, esp. the 8 hours for the title matches. The rest seem pretty close, mostly 3 hours, some 2, some 4.

Re: Professional Time Limits
I thought that the smaller japanese titles also have longer time limits for the title matches (5 hours), but I may be wrong.
You can also find some information in the tournament links here, but the details are not all complete.

A good system naturally covers all corner cases without further effort.

The Nongshim is also 1 hour per player, according to Senseis. http://senseis.xmp.net/?NongshimCup

Thanks, now I can add:
Nonghsim: 1 hr
Korean:
Kuksu, Myeongin: 3 hours prelim, 4 hours knockout, 5 hours final

Well on the English Nihon Ki-in site, it has time allowances for each tournament.
Kisei says : "Title match: 8 hours per player. League: 5 hours per player."
Judan says : "Title match, main tournament: 4 hours each."
So if that website is correct, I don't think the smaller titles have two time limits. This would probably be easier if spoke Japanese or Chinese or Korean! But I think I'll probably put the info on Sensei's soonish.

Re: Professional Time Limits
According to the Nihon Kiin Japanese website, of the smaller tournaments, only the Judan has a longer title match (4 hours for the finals vs 3 hours for the tournament, http://www.nihonkiin.or.jp/match/jyudan/). That's the only thing that seems to disagree with the English version of the site.

Re: Professional Time Limits
One thing that I have always wondered about when comparing these time limits....As I understand it, Japanese tournaments (at least for titles, I don't know about every league game) are always timed to where if you do not use a full minute, you get that whole minute back on your clock (Essentially always being in byo-yomi as it is thought of by most people - http://www.britgo.org/bgj/10643.html ). Is this true for korean tournaments as well? If you estimate that the average move made in a Japanese tournament adds about 30s to their clock, then if a player in the 3 hour time limit makes 120 moves before byo-yomi, they effectively are playing in a 4 hour time limit tournament. If this practice isn't in other countries tournaments that could make the discrepancy on times even larger.

Re: Professional Time Limits
Ok, I put up a page:
http://senseis.xmp.net/?ProfessionalTournamentTimeLimits
If anyone has any new info I'd be happy to add it. I still don't have any times for Chinese domestic tournaments (mingren, tianyuan).
I'm also curious about differences in byo-yomi, if anyone knows those. Is it the same everywhere?

The Mingren and Tianyuan tournaments both use 3 hours each throughout.
Best wishes.

Re: Professional Time Limits
Thanks. Some kind, anonymous soul already added it to senseis, and tapir added a few others. We're gonna have a nice resource I think.
