10 mm stones

1. Can people share their experience using 10 mm stones? I am trying to choose whether to get 9.x mm glass (or yunzi) stones vs. 10 mm glass stones. I heard that they wobble too much or are uncomfortable to hold. Perhaps someone has pictures or videos of these stones?

2. Does anyone have experience with these stones: http://www.amazon.com/10mm-Glass-Bi-Con ... B004X1VYFC ? From the picture, they don't look so thick. Also, they look somewhat irregular.

This is highly subjective. Some people love thick stones.
Personally I'd go with yunzi because they're way better than glass, but even that is subjective.

I agree with palapiku, it's very subjective.

My first set of "real" go stones were 10mm glass from Japan. They were nice, but they did wobble more than I liked, and a few did did get chipped in time.

Some years later when I bought a set of shell & slate stones I went for 8.4mm (size 31) and prefer that thickness.

A couple of years ago I bought a set of single-convex yunzi for club use. FWIW I like the feel of yunzi more than the glass stones.

I have a 9.8mm set of biconvex Yunzi. I consider them to be the thick end of medium-sized stones. They play perfectly.

If you are going to buy glass stones and care at all about the quality spring the extra money and buy the Japanese ones. They have way better quality-control than the Chinese or Korean ones.

Where did you get 9.8 mm stones? The ones available at Yellow Mountain Imports at the moment are 9.2 mm.

I got them from Yellow Mountain back in August, but I double-checked the records. They were the 9.2mm (size 33) and not the 9.8 (size 35). I seem to remember them having more than just 33s and 42s, though. Their page now looks like it has fewer options.

my first experience with 10mm stones was with Ing stones (plastic with lead centers). At first I thought they were too thick and preferred 8mm (I have glass stones this size). But gradually I got used to the thicker size and almost prefer those now.

I think (but don't own) anything between size 32-35 would be perfect for me now.

My hands are quite large. I prefer 10mm+ stones. Anything smaller feels weird. In a tournament, a guy brought his own stones that he wanted to use for his games. They were super thin. I kept dropping them, it was annoying and embarrassing.

Please consider large hand syndrome before forcing people to play with small stones.
