I ordered the paperback (haven't got it yet), but seeing your picture of the hardback laying open flat, I think I'm jealous now :)

I've got the paperback version of Relentless. The quality of the binding looks very good. However, in comparison to the Invincible paperback, the binding feels more fragile, inciting one to handle the book with care... The binding of Invincible feels more solid. Here is a semi-close-up picture of the binding, with Invincible on top, Relentless on the bottom:

Probably should email Gogameguru and ask them directly when they will sell the pdf.

You can check the Questions/Answers section at https://shop.gogameguru.com/relentless/, there is precisely this question too.

P.S. Note that if you buy the physical book now, you should be able to get the PDF version for free later, and thusly enjoy Relentless in both physical and digital worlds :)

I am considering buying this. Any further opinions? I guess I am more interested in the quality of the game reviews than the book size or build quality, but I understand the interest in that. Especially the question whether the paperback will survive.

Thanks.

Have you looked at the sample? (https://shop.gogameguru.com/relentless/, click on "Click here to download a free sample"). It's an entire game commentary. I thought it was outstanding and can't wait to read the rest.

Personally, I'm waiting to buy it digitally, because my bookshelf is crowded enough and I'll probably be playing through the games on the computer rather than a goban anyway (it makes going through variations, and there are lots of them, so much more pleasant).

(By the way, I started watching your Brady's Blunders series recently and am enjoying it very much.)

Thanks. Yeah, I browsed the sample, and thought it looked good. I especially like that it is quite contemporary. I question whether I have the diligence to do it justice. I never refer to my copy of Invincible, for example.

Also, thanks for your compliment. I'm glad you are enjoying the videos!

Yeah, I know what you mean. I've probably only gotten around a quarter of the way through Invincible myself, and I have other game collections sitting on the shelf as well. But the bulk of this book is "just" 8 games, so despite the extensiveness of the commentary I am pretty confident that I will actually read through all of them.

I thought it was pretty telling that the excerpt was 50 pages of commentary and I read through all of it, and played through every variation, without ever losing interest or my eyes glazing over.

Well, I am not into books and printing, but it looks like it is as advertised: hard cover.
I received my hard copy today.
I am totally impressed.
But I do not think it is binded. It looks to me to be yes in hard cover, but as in glued in hard cover.
It does look and feel (very) high quality though.
I don't care too much about binding. This book is awesome.

I have my copy and it's a great joy.

My method:

I replay the game, guessing every next move, through Cgoban.
3 wrong guesses: looking at the next move.
Read the review in Relentless.
Iterate.

I spent about 3 hours memorizing the first game.

Next I want to replay all the variations on cgoban. Might be a lot of effort ...

As I asked GoGamesGuru, a PDF is being prepared for purchase but the publication schedule is unclear, the price apparently not decided yet and I could not find out yet if there will be any password or DRM.

According to a thread on Reddit, it will be released DRM free with a Creative Commons license. I'm very impressed with their decision to share the book in that manner.
