Man, it sounds like everyone here but me plays over-the-board at least semi-regularly. I'd love that. I play almost exclusively online, so I have no national rank.
I wouldn't play this game at all if there were no available online servers. I certainly wouldn't have made it this far in skill, modest though it is.

I've played twice over the board since early 2009, both for tournaments. My rank improved both times, so it's possible my national rank is lagging. They were about an hours drive away, and I've missed maybe 5 or 6 tournaments I'd like to attend during that time, thanks to family life.

My last rated game over the board was 8 years ago, and my last over the board game was around 5 years ago... Next Tuesday I'm going to one of my local go clubs to check whether I should enter the Barcelona Go Tournament as 9 or 10k (I suggested 9, they told me to come and play to check or enter as 10k, entering as 10k is fine with me but playing is nice ). And next weekend, the tournament!

You're not alone, Marcus. I live in the middle of nowhere, so don't get to over-the-board tournaments.

I used to live there too. How come we never bumped into each other? BTW I've played less than 10 games on a real board...

I tell them my KGS rank since it's probably the most accurate (small sample size over-the-board, OGS/DGS have problems with ranks lagging behind your strength if you're improving, and I don't use IGS...) I do add 'KGS' after my rank though for clarity when people ask .

Possible that you can give the number of your real-board-game a 50% boost. Found an interesting information here, see section 3.

My KGS is 8, but i know thats inflated from not playing enough on there. My OGS rank is 32, but I feel that may not be right either... My DGS rank hovers between 15 and 17, and altho that is where I play the most, I think DGS ranks are a little low too. So if asked I say around 14 or so, but in my case it doesn't matter much, since the whole idea of playing online is that it should self-equalize, so I just play whatever my rank says I should.

I always use my national (AGA) rank,
I could use KGS, but I have a very strong tendency to play at 3:30 in the morning when I've got several other things on my mind. The rating may be correct, but in a "Broken clock is right twice a day"-kind've way.
Personally, I don't see a bias toward a higher number rank. (I always suspect that folks who announce their rank in the rating system with the lowest numbers think everyone else is overrating themselves.)
The AGA rating is the one I've worked the hardest on, and contains some of the games I'm most proud of. So I use that one.
