Of course, you are correct - it's not ko, and can be killed.
But more relevant than this, to me, are the time settings for this game. Surely, we have all made stupid mistakes with only a few seconds on the clock. I don't know these players, but a 5d or 6d rank ondicates that they've likely made fewer such mistakes.
There's also the possibility that an outside factor came into play. For example, maybe the baby started crying and the guy had to leave. Or maybe the boss walked in and asked for the guy's TPS report.

Hmm...it is a ko for the life of half of the group - after the other half dies. That half is about 20 points, which ought to be enough for B to win.
