Fig 1.
white sealed black in sente so white feels good.
and :w13: :w15: attacking the weakness of black start to lead the board.
but :b42: :b44: was agile move that made it even

var 1-1 black should have answer the peep and :w3: :b4: are miai so maintains the balance.

VAR 1-2 if :b8: and fight then white will cut :w9: and fight. this is not a good picture for black.

var 1-3
:w1: :w3: was sharp but :w9: would have been better for white because it will leave black group unstable so black will feel uncomfortable.

var 1-4
let's consider this variation where black cut and push :b5:
this variation feels good but black is still unstable and white gains points while getting points.

var 1-5
this variation? it is very good locally but white gets sente and :w6: looks ideal for white.

var 1-6
:b1: :b3: exchange was a product of deep reading that interfere :w8: if white play at :w8: then will die by net.

Fig 2
:b1: :b3: looks somewhat deep but jumping out erases the influence on left and it looks good for black.
for :w10: , :b11: show that he finished reading already and upto :b33: black looks good also :b37: is big so Lee was satisfied with this sequence.

var 2-1
:b4: was a probe but :w5: was good answer that created 3 stone saving aji and black lost sente. It appears now white came back from behind.

var: 2-2
:b1: is a move that tried to get sente. white :w8: is very thick and black lost points here and now the game is very close.

var 2-3
:b1: was a cold move that maintains the lead

Fig 3
One more chance for Lee when tanshew missed lee's mistake.
Now black is ahead.

var 3-1
:b6: is correct move that will simplify the board.

var 3-2
:w2: is a sharp counter attack that would have put lee into a bad situation. This variation is good for white.

var 3-3
answering :w3: instead is also good variation for white.

var 3-4
In actual game Tanshaw cut :w2: and letting black play :b3: :b5: missed the chance to win easy. answer to :w6: at :b7: and :b9: is a momentum move. building big right was favorable to black.

FIG 4
:w1: :w3: forcing black to connect. If just connect, it would be easy win for black. but retalition at :b4: was losing move and lost 6 stones on top. White is on top now.

FIG 4-1
connecting at :b4: would have sealed the win for black.

VAR:5-1 :wt: :bt: trade was made because of buyomi. but it was -4 point finish because it made capturing white stones sente.
VAR:5 Lee dong hoon tried his best to catchup and lost by half point but it was very comfortable half point because white didnt even bother ko fight at "a".

I was curious about this since you mentioned it, so I took a look at the site (http://www.cyberoro.com/news/news_view.oro?num=517211). In particular, if you view the source for the page, and search for the first text that you quoted, MW, you can see the following:

Code: Select all

<center><div class=caption><center> <b> ▼ 참고도1-2(흑, 곤란)</b> </center></div><script>showgibo('http://open.cyberoro.com/photo/201210/[517211]121018c1-2.ntf',400,'center');</script></center><br>
실전에선 백1에 흑2로 막았다. 이후 흑8로 젖히는 싸움은 잘 안 된다. 백9로 끊어 싸우면 흑이 좋지 않은 자세. <br>
<br>
Looks like they do some stuff with javascript for the image, etc. Anyway, if you take the hyperlink and paste it in your browser directly, you can download the file (http://open.cyberoro.com/photo/201210/[ ... 18c1-2.ntf).

The file opens in a text editor, and has an interesting format, which can be seen here:

Code: Select all

To switch this to an SGF, you can make a couple of quick modifications:
1.) Do a quick find/replace on the capital "B[" and "W[" elements so that they start with semicolons (eg. "B[" becomes ";B[").
2.) Do a find/replace on the "1[" with "AB[". Do the same to replace "2[" with "AW[".
3.) Remove excess parentheses.
4.) Slap on "(;FF[3]SZ[19]" at the top of the file.
5.) Add a parenthesis at the end of the file.
6.) ???
7.) Profit!!!

This gave me:

Code: Select all

;B[io]
;W[hn]
;B[in]
;W[iq]
;B[hm]
;W[gn]

)
Which can be seen in an SGF editor:

Kind of a tedious approach, but it could be automated. I might be inclined to do so if I can get more information about the spec for these elusive ntf files... :batman:

Kirby: you rock!
i realize that commentary are far more detailed than others i have seen.
It would be nice to copy every "spotlight focus"(i think this is a good translation) into SGF and post it here.

Here is Takao Shinji's blog about his game against Tan Xiao.

If I get some free time tonight, I'll translate it.
