Was the site under attack ?

The message I got was this (emphasis for user code added by me):

General Error
SQL ERROR [ mysql4 ]

User lif1005808362083 already has more than 'max_user_connections' active connections [1203]

An sql error occurred while fetching this page. Please contact an administrator if this problem persists.

The code for the user seems NOT to have been unique for the user viewing the page since it is the same code that Robert Jasiek also posted in rec.games.go.

Tom! That particular user ID could be the culprit...

rec.games.go is still alive? !!!!!!

It's not a user ID. The error message is related to the connection to the hosting service.

Ah well, I thought since that code was out already I could just as well post it here, hoping that it would be helpful. Only later I realized that the admins would, of course, have seen the same

As we both know, dinosaurs are still well alive The group is alive, too, although there’s one antisemitic dingbat who is abusing it by spamming political rants (mostly HUGE copy/pastes from KGS chat), and the admins don't seem to care, because, you know, “free speech”. But and every once in a while a post appears that makes sense (to me)
