Thanks, Lovelove and Magicwand, I enjoyed watching your game a LOT, nevermind the fact that your play often was way over my triple-kyu head

Waouh, what a great game guys, fun to watch too !
Go is really a game of guts and determination, at least that's the impression when reading both players comments. The last 10% (must be dan level of course) is reading and not the so more important part as both black and white are susceptible of making mistakes (a perfect game would be boring anyway :p ?), and that's what i like in go now

so i am a bad guy?
dont need hide tag because i am not too sensitive about anything.
Yes i misread ladder. or better yet, i didnt read.
for my defense, my opponent's plays i criticized was kyuish.
am i the only one who can feel that you are defintly the stronger player when you play new opponent???

Magicwand provides more entertainment here than anyone I can think of, certainly right now.
Folks are entitled to their opinions, but as I stated in an earlier thread, he is the Simon Cowell of Malkowich games - we do not always like what he says, but we can never accuse him of not calling it like it is, or at least, how he sees it. And we watch his games not just for the strength of his game, but for the fun of his comments.
He always admits when he is wrong and, while "arrogant" during the games, he is always gracious in victory and defeat.
I strongly suspect I would like him in person, even if his online words can be a little rough.
And I really think the criticsm of his ladder misread "especially in a Malkovich game" is completly misplaced. Magicwand does not take a day or even an hour, perhaps not even 5 minutes for his moves - he slams the stones right back at his Malkovich opponents like a blitz game. Perhaps it is not his best go - but it is always fun.
Indeed, the whole point of Malkowich is getting inside the heads of the players. As MW points out - we do not think "Hmm, that move is strange, my worthy opponent must be distracted or reading very deep" No, we think " Well that was stupid - how do I punish" Magicwand gives us what we "pay" to see - a real, non sanitized look into his reactions to the game.
We really need to work on not chasing our biggest contributors away....
Thanks for keeping this place alive, Magicwand.

Excellent point, HKA. I am a horrible Malkovitch player (and only ever tried a few times) because I keep thinking and thinking and thinking, hoping to invent a sanitized version of my thought process to show the world. But the point isn't self-flagellation, the point is to communicate your thought process. (Which for me, in most cases, is:

"Ooo, shiny!") It takes a certain amount of self-awareness to be capable of that, plus a bit of courage to spill the beans for the adoring public.

I 100% agree. L19 is a more colourful and fun place because of magicwand (and not just because I love our games so much), and his comments add spice and entertainment.
I'd write more, but HKA did it better than I could, so I'll just ask people to read his post again for the rest of my opinions on it

But why call a 5 dan's moves kyu-ish? Could express the same sentiments by calling them mistakes.

Because that's what he feels? I personally value that honesty highly, even if I might disagree with the comments themselves.
I had a peep called kyu-ish by magicwand in the game before last we had together - do I agree? undecided. Do I stand by my move? Yes. Do I feel offended or insulted? No. Did the comment make me at least re-assess the move and have a look at it? Yes.
Take from that what you will
