Hello,

I noticed what seems to be a bug. Here is the post: https://www.lifein19x19.com/viewtopic.php?t=19156

Clicking on the diagram link at the bottom of the first post gives me some php errors:

Code: Select all

Warning: Undefined array key 1 in /var/www/html/sltxt2png.php on line 196

Warning: Undefined array key 4 in /var/www/html/sltxt2png.php on line 199

There is no diagram in that post, just the word "go" in (square) brackets, like this [go]. I imagine an admin could change this to parenthesis but probably there has been some change to the BBCode interpretation.

Actually, I have a feeling the the first post is truncated or broken in some way, and not all the content is displayed. In the thread, they seems to quote content from that first post that is apparently missing.[/go]

Originally in the post above, I wrote

It does not appear in my message above, and this probably mean something quoted breaks the message when being displayed, and the same thing breaks in the original post for the same reason.

Good to see L19 back. I'll be around.

BBCode was disabled in my previous message. It is possible to use magic to display the tag as normal text. ABRACADABRA :batman: [go] is basically reserved because it is the tag to make diagrams.

In the post linked above it is possible to see the rest of the post by clicking on "Click Here To Show Diagram Code" but it does seem likely that this use of brackets also caused some problem or other before.

SEND OUT THOSE EMAILS ALREADY ABOUT L19 RESURRECTION

It appears that still no email has been sent out to L19 users – or have I missed it?

How are we to get John, Bill, and others to return here if they don’t know that L19 has been resurrected? I’d imagine that many regular users would have given up after a few months of L19 being down, and I also imagine that especially many of the older ones don’t frequent other Go places like the OGS forum or r/baduk or the FB Go groups.

I’ve sent Bill Spight a PM, hoping that the Forum software will notify him, but can’t do that with John Fairbairn b/c he has disabled PMs 🤷‍♂️ But seriously, I believe it is the duty of the Admins to notify the users per email.

I think the plan was to check things are working, fix any serious bugs and then send the group email? Some problems with diagrams and SGF attachments have been reported in this thread but not yet fixed, and a few of us would like a larger default font size. apetresc shows as last active this morning, but hasn't posted any updates in nearly three weeks as far as I can tell. I don't know if there are still things that need an urgent fix, or if the email could go out soon. I'd also be pleased to see that email.

GREAT to have you (all!) back! It was a long, lonely wait. For years L19 unread posts was the start page on my browser. I switched away after a few months and have been slowly losing hope that the best Go site on the web would ever come back. I only clicked here today out of nostalgia rather than hope. But here we are! Well done and thanks for what was obviously a tremendous effort.

Bill stopped writing, IIRC, in summer 2021 presumably due to personal circumstances, which I suspect might be age- / health-related. It was two months before my publication of very much mathematical endgame theory, in which he would have been very interested and on which he would have commented eagerly if he could, as he still had done about four months before. Anyway, his legacy lives on.

 :-?

Thanks, Robert, I obviously missed that – because I got much less active here due to rising engagement on the OGS forum.

I'm very thankful to apetresc for bringing L19 back, but I'm not going to be confident in its future until he's not the only person with the ability to manage it.

Sorry – not sorry – for bringing this up again.

Does John Fairbairn (to name just one of our formerly most prolific members) know that L19 is back up?

How would he know? How would we know that he knows?

What about some other old-timers who still are missing? How could we make sure that they all know that L19 is back up? (There’s an answer, see below.)

Has anyone of the admins thought about sending out a one-time message to all L19ers?

Are you comatose, or am I just being a PITA for you, that none of you is replying to my repeated pleas to send out a message to all L19ers?

I mean, it’s awesome that you brought L19 back up, and I am totally thankful that you took action and did all the necessary work after I notified you personally, but really, I believe that a simple message, like “L19 is back up!” should be sent to all members, dammit!

(And no, I don’t usually swear publicly like this, “but WHEN I do …” … it’s for a reason.)
