One doesn't have to play Go to enjoy a healthy interest in Go, as I've abundantly demonstrated with my portfolio of games, several of which make use of the goban, including my Go variant, Redstone.

I'm a designer. I.e., not someone who needs to justify himself to mere players.

I guess it means the games need a higher intelligence than mere mortals players have.

If I'm not a designer, tell me who is. My games are played on 16 servers, far more than any other designer.

The obviously biased "critique" was written by an extremely jealous, fellow designer who never amounted to anything.

A little perspective on Ralf Gering.

I assume your harsh critique is not biased, right?

A little perspective on Ralf Gering
“little”, indeed.

BTW on the same page, near the top you write about Redstone:
REDSTONE I accidentally designed a Go variant, something I don't normally do. I almost didn't release it but I'm glad I did because it made a huge splash in the Go community.
“a huge splash”? When was that? I missed this.

Everything else aside, this is a non-sequitur.

One could compare go to a literary tradition. Just because you make use of a pen and paper, doesn't mean you have any appreciation of Tolstoy and Dostoyevsky. The essence of go is in the actual patterns of stones, not in the simplistic rules or equipment.

Huge is a relative term. Just getting the time of day from Go lifers is significant. Getting very favorable reviews from topazg, Bill Spight, et al to me is huge. The fact that Redstone might be "deeper" than Go... Name one other Go variant with that credential.

This topic has veered far off course, mostly due to the imprecations of a single poster. I request that the forum moderation intervene.

Of Go? A few. I haven't completely given up on Go, btw. I just need the right instructor. Getting completely annihilated, from the first few moves onward, while receiving zero instruction is not real helpful, believe it or not.

Maybe I'll be inspired by Kaya if I ever get my free account. And assuming the lag isn't too bad. I find any degree of lag totally unbearable.

I think they intend to open up for more accts on monday, so be sure to watch it. And yes, getting zero instructions is really not helpful. Is this the reason you are (= seem to be) displeased by Go? I could understand this.
