It's looking like a really excellent time to lock this thread...

Joaz is getting it right because IMO

are unfair if only one user explains his motivations while all other users don't.

Joaz, if you are going to lock the thread, lock it, but repeatedly threatening to do so seems to me like you are just throwing your weight around. You recently said in your thread asking about how people feel moderating should be done, that parents should have no cause for concern if their children visit the forum. What about this thread should give them cause for concern?

Since Robert Jasiek has agreed with you, I don't want to push this, but it seems to me that this is an issue that the community can work out itself and I would appreciate it if you would draw a clearer distinction between your moderating persona and your commenting one. If this is the moderator's "light hand" that you envision, I'd prefer a strong one.

Mod Hat

My formal view on this thread is that it has taken some of the off-topic derailing that were happening elsewhere into an ongoing discussion here, which I'm frankly quite happy with. If the attacks become truly ad-hominem (and I am also of the belief that "troll" is an ad-hominem attack), then further action will be required. Asking one another to justify their view is not, in my opinion, ad-hominem.
