So far, I change my "favorite" quite frequently. It makes sense, considering I am still learning about new pros daily. And I'm changing again - to Kim Myeongwan (
김명완).
The reason? See the game below. This is Kim crushing me at nine stones. Maybe you are thinking it doesn't look too bad - considering it's 8 kyu vs pro. Well, this photo was taken after review. The stone in the lower right, at the (3,2), didn't get there until Mr Kim showed me it's what I ought to have done. In the game I played at (5,2). Mr. Kim's response at (3,1) killed the corner.
Anyhow, I really appreciate all the pros that come to the US Go Congress. But, getting crushed at nine stones certainly leaves an impression.

I am a Japanese go fan and it suits me just fine that they are currently the underdog in the international arena.
My go idol is Yuki Satoshi 9p who appears to have undergone some sort of transformation in recent years.
He will face Kim Sujun 8p, another player i like very much, this year in the Tengen title match.
My favorite woman in go is Daiwa Ladies cup champion Mannami Kana 4p.
She is very cute and strong and is good in the spotlight.

I haven't had a serious look at many pros, and yet... I'm interested in any pro that have a style that does not fit mine : fighters.
His name wasn't mentionned often, but Kato Masao is my all-time favorite. His games from is early, "killer Kato" years are beautiful bloodbaths. His
famous game against Takagawa is a good example of the kind of player he was in his early career.
More recently, I've enjoyed looking at Shuko's games. Gu Li is next on my list.
