Ahh, it is a mess with every score-based tournament-type system. Check out the BCS :). You could have a head-to-head exception, but meh.

Thanks for clarifying the situation, Mike.

I think that would've made deciding the winner of the Open section pretty complicated, what with the top three players beating each other. Ziyang Hu > Zhaonian Chen > Yongfei Ge > Ziyang Hu

I didn't meet as many forum members as I would've liked, but I hung out with Shaddy some, ran into EdLee (who I'd already met at Cotsen), met daniel_the_smith in the last days and Redbeard at the awards banquet. :D Shaddy and I were wondering why Joaz and Kirby weren't there, although I know Kirby probably has more pressing obligations at present. Posted some of my day to day thoughts about Congress here: http://eachmovematters.blogspot.com/ (No pictures, unfortunately, too lazy)

Oh, I wasn't advocating for a change. There is no way around complications in tournaments like this (a lot of participants and a short amount of time).

me neither... I even tried to arrange a meetup, but then couldn't make it myself

game recorders often don't get meal breaks either, and top players games can last 5-6 hours

I'm glad I didn't have to buy(waste) a meal plan

Yeah, I didn't see about your posted meetup until it was too late. Maybe next year we can try and arrange something in advance.

really great to read this thread! Otherwise i'd barely know what happened at congress, other than my announcements ;) Thanks a lot guys, i'm really glad you all made it! :)

Mike is being very, *very* diplomatic. The list of things i'd fix next time is as long as my arm :D

 I do have a longer list, and I'm still adding to it... but the numbers only go up to 9, so that seemed like a good place to truncate. (Just so y'all know, the vast majority of stuff on my list has to do with my own performance, not Lisa and Andrew.)

It was a pleasure meeting you, Andrew. I admit to still being a bit steamed about packing up the boards in the same room while where people were still playing on them  but I'll get over it... as long as we make sure it never happens again. I think you did a great job with what you had, and earned that certificate Karoline and I pilfered. I look forward to more frisbee in NC. :salute:

Alas! I had hoped it would be one of the... THREE people who were there that have rad dinosaur avatars? Alas, I suppose you could only fit a few dinosaurs into Corwin Hall, anyways.

Anywho, Congress was a blast! I'm sorry I didn't get to meet more of you folks, but I really enjoyed hanging out with everyone I did meet. Beer with strangers that you can reference go stuff to, midnight rengo sessions, crazy self-pairs... a great time, all in all. Not to mention I did a whole problem book by the time I got home. =D Shaddy really inspired me to work on more problems, so here goes nothing!

Also, I like how everyone from the forum seemed to be universally friendly. =D

X2. Despite my intentions to the contrary, you have the only "action shot" of me during a game (at least to my knowledge).
