And this is, again, why I've just stuck with Go :(

PS That video was awesome ...

Keep in mind the bandwagon effect that is so oppressive in internet communities. There are plenty of people with level-headed opinions, but they're shouted down at every turn, and they feel like contributing their perspective less and less. It's what happens when you open a single community to the entire world. Tomorrow the tide could turn; maybe Day[9] will come forward with a strong statement about how the community should be more positive, and suddenly all the whiners will be the ones being treated like fools. For now, the trick is to find sub-communities that fit your taste, like this one.

As for the go community being nicer... I'm not so sure. Older and with better etiquette, sure. But for every whining Starcraft player there's a shodan who thinks he's better than everyone because he knows some joseki.

Off topic in an Off Topic thread:
If whining makes you unhappy, don't whine. But while whiners may sometimes seem unpleasant, we're the ones who make the world a better place.

Life has always been pretty swell, even when almost all human beings were dirty peasants and infant mortality was through the roof. The "thank you, master" peasants weren't the ones who brought us airplanes and the internet. It's people who are dissatisfied who keep pushing. Dissatisfaction is something we seem to be good at, as a species, and it's good for us.

It seems to me that there's a "thank you, master" mentality at work here. I guarantee you that every single group of serious sports fans in the country hate some (or, in the case of my father, all) of the sportscasters who cover their sports. So either you think the whole world is brimming with spoiled children who really should be thankful to the corporations who so generously provide us with airplanes and cellphones, or you think that the SC2 community specifically should realize that they don't really deserve casters at all, much less good casters.

I guess you've never talked to anyone in the AGA, or noticed how everyone over 25 in the go community takes offense to everything.

But I have to agree that the whining about NASL is ridiculous. But what can you expect from people who are mostly late high school/early college? They're crying over paying $20 for NASL tickets that last 3 months. It's pretty silly.

I'm mad. Because next month I will have too much Starcraft content and will have to pick and choose. :ugeek:

There's already too much SC2 content; it's just nothing is really on the same level as GSL right now.

Thought it was cool that Jinro brought up Go (on a 9x9 board) as an analogy regarding the difference between Blizzard and GSL maps in an interview :D: http://www.rakakaworld.com/?newsID=86
In the GSL, you play different maps than the ones on the ladder and tournaments in Europe. What are the biggest differences between Blizzard maps and the ones being used in the current season of GSL. How has it affected your game? /SuperJaoelMan

The biggest difference is that there's a potential for real games on each of the maps, regardless of balance. When you play close-position on Metal or play Steppes there's nevera complete game of StarCraft II. It's like playing Go on a beginner's board (9x9) or something like that. You only get to see a small part of the game. Also, they all require bigger games – there can be a lot happening on a much bigger area. It becomes more open and you have to keep an eye on everything.

Yea, I actually have heard that he used to be(or might still be) a go player. I doubt he has much time to play with all that training for SC2, but I assume he must still play every now and again. Nice to see it mentioned, and a pretty decent analogy.

Maybe Day[9] too: Quick google search:

Went to my first local SC2 LAN event :D. Overall it was a great experience, although there were only 20 computers and 50+ participants, which was a surprising number of entrants, which caused extremely long waiting time before playing in the next round. Everyone was very friendly and it was great just getting to watch over other people playing and discussing strategy and BOs with other people also in queue. Even threw in a few GSL jokes and everyone got them :P. I definitely learned a lot getting to talk with some of the higher-leveled master players. There were a few top-leveled players attending the event such as KawaiiRice from team Fnatic, RaNgeD, Sterling, and NamhciR.

Regarding my performance, I advanced from the first round with a bye, won the second round against a 3.1k Master Zerg 2-0 w/ 2 base 6-7 gate timing pushes, then got owned by Sterling 0-2 :(. It was awesome that my set against him got casted though, 100+ viewers watching me die to a ridiculous EMP that hit all my army =___=. In the loser's bracket I lost 1-2 to a 3.4k Master Terran. I won my first game in a macro game where my army was primarily chargelots and HTs against his MMM+ghosts. He must have realized I was better in the macro game or something because in the 2nd and 3rd games he just did some lame 1-base all-ins that I still do not know how to take out (g2: marine+tank+raven 1-base all-in; g3: 4-rax + SCV all-in). T__T

And oh, my set against Sterling can be found here :P - http://www.justin.tv/edwardstarcraft/b/280560741 (1 hour, 6 minutes i in; the caster was casting the tournament for 13 hours!). I'm going to get nightmares from that EMP.

Just watched your games against Sterling, Araban. I like how you split off well-calculated portions of your army to deal with his Medivac drops. That's something I'm going to be working on soon against Terran (once I get over my cold and feel well enough to play again). That triple EMP in the first game is the stuff of nightmares, though. I'm curious how you would respond to the casters' criticisms of your play, such as their view that you waited too long to get HTs.
