An amuse-gueule

I found the comment on move 46 of this game very amusing.

Go to move 45 in the first diagram and try to guess the honte for the next move by White as cited by Segoe Kensaku, who at the time (1930) could reasonably be said to be the best player in the world. The second diagram shows both what he actually played for move 46 and A, which he thought was the honte in the post mortem.

The lower left is incidentally a nice example of not following joseki slavishly.

In his drily humorous way, Segoe also gave the technical word for such moves: "guesswork".

This move startled me. Having seen it, I can understand the reasoning behind it, but I don't think it would have occurred to me at all, let alone the particular placement.
