when new unread posts span across an additional page(s) of a thread, then the view first unread post link only goes to the top of the new page, and not to the actual first unread post on the previous page of the thread. they are then marked as having already been read and I have to figure out where I last left off.

(I'm not using the default post per page setting, my settings are 40 post per page, if that makes a difference)

Hmm, unless something has changed recently or I'm misremembering, this does not seem to be the case for me. I have my settings at 25 posts per page, and if, say, posts 24-28 are new, I get brought to the last two posts on page 1, rather than the top of page 2.

you may also need some time between posts, perhaps crossing from one calendar day to the next contributes to the bug as well.

for example, I was re-reading the New Super Meijin Tournament thread yesterday (sat 24th) about 8pm-ish us pacific. the last post was Harleqin's #31 @3am (my time)

when I looked at the thread again this morning (sun 25th ~10am-ish), the link definitely took me post #41 at the top of the 2nd page (fully skipping posts #32-40). I wouldn't have looked back at the 1st page to notice the bug, except that the context of the replies didn't make sense to what I last remembered reading the day before.

this happens all the time (windows/mac; firefox;safari;ie)

this time in the off topic Democracy monarchy thread. Last night, I had read upto post #38 (or something like that, I was really counting until today), this morning I noticed it had gone to two pages with 41 posts. Guess which one the read unread link took me to --- #41

I hadn't read 39 and 40 yet!

edit: this is not new behavior. this has happened since the beginning of this forum, but less noticeable at first due to smaller and fewer threads. now that the site is growing, this bug is becoming more and more irritating.

while reading the "not caring about rank" thread today, I last left off around post 30-something between 1:30p and 2:30p. Then noticing about 4pm that there were now 40 replies --> yep link takes me straight to post #41, skipping 34-40.

xed_over, is this still happening? Thought we should at least have some discussion going if it is still a problem, I just don't normally use this method of reading the forums so I haven't noticed anything.

oddly, its not happening for 2nd page breaks (over 80 posts), but still does for 1st page breaks (posts over 40)
