Life In 19x19

Hello everybody,

I'm a french maths student, and I've been interested in Go for some quite a long time.
I've made the step and learned the rules this week, and start to loose all my first games on KGS!

So I've decided to start studying a bit and thus started to read the Janice Kim' series "Learn to play Go"

Is it a good choice to begin with? Do you have further recommendations?

I don't know if I can ask but would a nice more advanced player would have time for a pedagogical match one day ?

When you're just starting, pretty much all experiences are good for you.

you can ask for a teaching game on kgs in the "kgs teaching ladder" room, or if you want to play a slow game (several hours, even days per move) check out the go teacher (a joint account to provide teaching games) on the dragon go server, see here.
But if you want to get stronger you should also look to play real time games.

Do you have further recommendations?

I always recommend the series "Graded Go Problems for Beginners". It literally starts off with "capture the stone in atari" type of problems in book 1 and ends with fairly advanced single digit kyu problems in the 4th book, and it covers all types of topics (even the opening).

Janice Kim's books are excellent starters. I also like 'Opening Theory Made Easy.'
