DGS Problems

When I try to log onto DGS I get the message
"This domain maybe for sale! Buy it now! Click Here"
Surely the domain has not expired. Is anyone else having this problem?

Same here - looks as though their domain has expired...
Interestingly, the iOS client still appears to be working for me at the moment.

How about a direct IP address? Does anyone know what it is? Does that work?

Oh, this could mean that this is not the server hardware failure that i feared would take down DGS eventually.
So only the URL needs to be re-registered, and DGS is back online?
Also, there is another thread about it, where i already answered:

Hi all,
the server is not down, but it seems the domain-owner indeed forgot to renew the domain, but the server is still running, see "News"-section on:
http://senseis.xmp.net/?DragonGoServerI'm currently trying to reach the site-/domain-owner.
Cheers,
/JUG (DGS-Admin)

Thanks JUG. That workaround suggested in SL doesn't work. The .SE address gets translated to the expired domain. Also, entering the IP address does the same. I cannot edit that HOSTS file, even on my own computer!

I've managed to reach the domain-owner just a few minutes ago, ... I hope he can resolve this soon (by renewing the domain) ...
Cheers,

It may still take 24 hours to propagate itself.

On windows at least, the hosts file is protected and to edit it, you need to right click on notepad in your start menu and select Run As Administrator. Then in that instance of notepad you can browse to the file to open and edit it. That said, I don't recommend changing it, as you'll need to change it back when the problem is fixed. It may also trigger your antivirus program, since some malware will modify the file to send you to bogus sites surreptitiously.

I still cannot get there. The name has not reached my provider yet. I am not worried about timing out because I am not low on time in any of my games, but this could affect some people if clocks are restarted.

It was me that posted the Hosts file workaround in the SL Wiki this morning.
You will need to click the Windows start button, type Notepad then when it appears in the filtered list of programs, RIGHT CLICK it and select 'run as administrator'. Then: file, open.. navigate to c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts and make the changes in SL wiki link. You'll find you can now save the file as this is a write protected file by default (otherwise this would circumvent a lot of Windows security measures). This is the best method to regain access as some tools use the actual domain name to connect to (i.e. the notifier browser add-in for Firefox).
However, you shouldn't need to do this now JUG has sorted the problem. If it's not working REBOOT your computer which will refresh its DNS cache (there is a way to do this without a reboot, but this is just simpler for me to explain). If it still doesn't work it means the DNS changes haven't propagated to the DNS server you're using and you can try the above. Post here if it doesn't work. Don't worry if this all seems like gobbledegook just try rebooting before trying the above.
Good luck. And if you fancy a game, I'm on there as gomental

Oh, and JUG: How come DGS goes to sleep for 15 minutes each night at 10:15 uk time ?
