10k vs 9k review request

I was Black this game, my questions are attached.
Thanks for your comments! Game was a little fast and i think slow..

If you find the time setting is too fast for you, and you have to rush a lot, then why not switch to a slower setting.
Otherwise you're just playing, excuse my french, crap go.
For beginners, if you consistently spend over 2 minutes per move, that's too slow -- you're wasting your time.
OTOH, if you consistently think less than 5 seconds per move, that's too fast. Low quality Go.

You have to find a good balance for yourself. :)
If you post crap, I mean blitz, games for review, some kind folks may do it for you, but then one wonders what's the point, and who really benefits from it.

As soon as W jumps into your narrow gap, W is already pincered.
So you can play R14(A), but, it feels a little redundant, inefficient.
(W is already pincered; why spend another move to pincer it 'more'.)
You can consider o16. You can tenuki.
This is not so important. The opening is quite flexible.
The game is decided later, not here.
:w8: :b9: Good question; important basic. :study: :study:
The extend up, A, Q9, is not slow -- it's a very good move.
Your jump allows W to hane under at S9 -- you cannot resist at S8.
Compare: if you extend to Q9 on :b9:, then if :w10: hanes at S8,
you can resist and hane-block at S7 -- but with your :b9: jump, you cannot.

This :b9: jump mistake is more important than your question about :b7: .
This is also the main reason that over-two-minutes-per-move is mostly a waste of time for beginners.
Because sometimes, in cases like this one, they veer off course within the first 2 seconds;
then they spend the next 2 minutes on completely off-course reading.
:w12: :b13: Good question; important basic. :study:
In this case, either tiger's mouth ( Q8, Q10 ) is out, because you allow B atari at R9.

That leaves only Q9 solid connect (having to do with ladders),
or, S9 push through (also requires more reading).
:b15: Yes, connect.

:w18: P10 tiger's mouth.

:b23: Either way is OK; different meanings. Not so important.

:b25: You want the other side.
Thought A is too near to my thickness.
Misunderstandings here:
  • Your lower right area is not exactly thickness.
    It still has weakness; W still has aji there.
  • M3(A) is NOT too near to your lower right corner.
    M3(A) is a good extension for you.
  • If you block with :b25: at M3(A), then W is very cramped.
  • With your real :b25: at H3, W makes a nice 2-space extension to N3.
  • Your real :b25: at H3 is too close to your lower left stones; you are cramped.
  • If :b25: at M3(A), and if :w26: at H3, then :b27: happily takes 3-3 at C3.
Sometimes our thinking -- the situation with :b25: --
is the exact opposite of the reality ( like :b9: ).
:w40:
You're correct that fixing the lower right corner is too small; tenuki is good.
However, locally, your R3 is not the right shape. You want the tiger's mouth S3.
Can you think of one reason S3 is better than R3 ?
Later in the end game, when W plays R1, what's the difference between :black: R3 and :black: S3 ?
:b43: :w44: :b45:
Bad basics; misunderstanding. Just block with :b45: at C10.

Ponder:
If :b43: blocks at C8, W takes 3-3 (C3), you block at C2 -- locally, W is not alive.
:w48: Bad basics. Push-block solidly at C10.

I would like to add a couple of comments. When White played 14 at 1 below, you wrote, "I should have Q9'ed here right?" And Ed agreed with you! Hmm... If Black connects and White extends at 3, what has Black achieved here? Additionally, what is the role of the marked Black stone? Actually your choice in the game was better than connecting. However, the follow-up should have been different...

Black should continue with the atari at 1 below. If White connects, I would be strongly tempted to connect at 2, securing a nice corner and leaving White without two sure eyes yet. If White cuts somewhere instead of connecting, we capture the ko and remember the proverb that there are no ko threats in the opening. The shape of 1 plus the three marked stones is one that occurs quite often. We should all remember it as a proper way to play aggressively in a ko.

Thank you both for your comments! It was a 10 minute main time, 20x5 byo yomi game. I think slow i guess, i might think for 2 minutes especially at the beginning..
I would try to find a balance Ed, but i would not play Blitz.
