Kami no Itte

I'd entered a number of pieces in the League of Utah Writer's competition. A few did really well, including first place in creative nonfiction for my "Five Minutes" piece about climbing Mt. Fuji.

Sadly, my piece on Go didn't do so well. I like to think it's because the judges didn't understand the game :), but it could be that it just isn't that well written, it was my first attempt at Creative Nonfiction more than a year ago.

Anyway, I've gone ahead and posted it for those who are interested. It's in a rather unusual format, a braided essay where two (or more) supposedly unrelated topics are tied together at the end.

For good or ill, here's my contribution to the creative writing forum :salute:

Speaking as a reader, it only makes sense to someone who knows go. Otherwise, it becomes a description of an earthquake interspersed with incomprehensible interuptions, and when you tie them together at the end ( which I really liked, BTW! ) they will miss the connection entirely.

Hi Erythen,

Congrats on your efforts.
I second Joaz's assessment.

If this was for a Go publication, it'd be a very different situation.
To introduce a subject so completely foreign to the general audience --
whether it's Go, quantum mechanics, or deep sea diving, etc. --
it requires some brilliant tesujis. :)

Have you seen Pawn Sacrifice ?

I appreciate your efforts and congrats again. :)

Thanks you :). I hoped that was the case.

I'm not familiar with it. What is it about...well, besides sacrificing pawns ;-)
