Life In 19x19

My main question about this game is when and where to invade the big space in the lower half (or to prevent it’s creation) and maybe some hints on what to do then.
Of course, i’m happy about comments on every other aspect of the game, too. In particular on the basics.
After the game my opponent and i reviewed some points together and i went over it by myself later.

The upper right corner was a really silly mistake, normally i see things like that; unfortunatly not always. I hope that changes with more experience.

btw: this was my 35th game (not counting a couple against computers and some 5x5).

That cutting point at L3; well, it’s so obvious now you showed me.
Next time i’ll use my left over time to close my eyes a minute and take some deep breath and look again at the board.

I think the fight mistakes are more easy to adress; by tsumego, practice/experience and reviews. The slow, small moves, not seeing the bigger picture seems harder to deal with since it has it’s roots in different causes:
1) sometimes i’m just caught up in a local fight
2) my judgement wether a group is alive at a certain moment needs a lot of improvement
3) sometimes i just don’t see, could be that i don’t know what to look for

at 1: i already have a “Beware of the toothpaste” note on the desk. I’ll ad one to remind me to look at the bigger picture every move. That shouldn’t be a problem with the comfortable time-settings i use.
at 2: practice & experience
at 3: keep an eye on it, sooner or later i’ll figure it out

a lot of different opinions on that, e.g. senseis.xmp.net and ‘The Second Book of Go‘ disagree with each other which is better in which circumstances. But the nuances of that are probably way beyond my current level.

It took me a while to understand why this move is important. It’s at least 10 points i lost there.

Right. high or low is not a problem for you.
