Life In 19x19

Client functionality is unnecessary. I'm mainly looking for a program to notate and develop SGF files that might fit my needs better than what I'm currently using.

I have tried the following: GoPanda2, glGo, kombilo, smartgo, cgoban (KGS Client), and GoGui. Are there any others out there?

Could you explain why all of those other editors you tried don't fit your use case?

I am not unhappy with these options. The question was mostly intended to see if there are other options to consider that might work better or have features that I have not seen.

That said, I can describe what I see as the limitations of the current options. Although please keep in mind that these comments are not meant as general statements about the programs, but rather, just how they fit my needs and idiosyncrasies. I currently find the general interface of cgoban to be the most convenient for writing comments, exploring variations, marking the board, etc. But it's a bit old and clunky. I then use elements of the others when necessary -- Kombilo for data base searching, GoGui to condense a sequence of nodes into a single node, and SmartGo to create book-style diagrams.

And why do I use cgoban the most? First, it has many more editing functions than GoGui and gl-Go. I find Kombilo's interface is great for data base searching but I find it too complicated for more than limited editing. For SmartGo, I prefer the way that cgoban represents the move tree. I love the way that Pandanet2 displays the board, but in editing mode, it does not allow one to enter comments -- you have to start a review to do that which requires you to interface with the server -- and it does not have a move tree.

I think that Drago is a big one that you would want to take a look at.

Like you I am mainly a cgoban user for analysis. For years I did all of my GTL reviews that way. As an old guy (64 and counting), clunkiness is a feature not a bug. Cgoban's biggest fault IMHO is that I can not use the delete key to fix a misclick; I have to go through the right-click menu.

These days most analysis that I do is for L19. I do it primarily using the Web Go Board addon for Firefox (or Chrome). It's variation tree is similar to cgoban's (and the delete key works!). Plus there are many other features such as exporting L19 diagrams.

Hi BlindGroup, my favorite Windows Go editor/viewer is MultiGo.

I'll second ez4u's recommendation toward "Web Go Board". I use that mostly.

I also like Sabaki, which was advertised here on the forum (http://sabaki.yichuanshen.de/).
