Just wanted to see if anyone else misses the pink stones

I didn't play enough with them to miss them, but I liked wms' idea of having different stone and board sets on KGS.

On OGS, I feel like I can't look at a game without my custom board and stones skin.

The pink stones killed me inside. I think Black and White should be sufficient .

While we're at it, can we have the 9d ranks back, too?

I used to use turbogo alot when i was pre 18k

and i loved the ability to change the board/stones to custom ones you made.

(i miss my nod board and red/black stones)


Ether way id like the ability to have some choices, like plain white black/current/or upload custom from your computer.

I like the idea of alternate designs for stones and boards.

First, there should be a configuration option to always use the default colors. That way, if someone does not like unusual boards/stones, they can make it so that they only have to see 'vanilla' stuff. Any players that don't have these 'vanilla-colored glasses' settings set will see whatever stones they and their opponent have chosen.

Second, WMS deserves money for all his work, so some stones/boards should be purchase/KGS+ subscription only.

Third, unlockables make videogames more fun/replayable. Certain stone sets and boards should become available either with rank, or with number of wins.

Some stone sets may only be available to winners of tournaments and such, as a mark of prestige.

This setup is much more complicated than 'anyone can buy anything', but it seems interesting and not too much harder to make.

Am I the only one using untextured stones & goban ? The textured set is so ugly

I did that too for the same reason. But I have lowered my standards and play with the default now.

i like this concept. but to add to it.

Each player can select a "set". then both players see there opponents set.

Example.
Player [A] selects Vanilla set.
Player [B] Selects royal set (black stones are black w/ blue lines, White are silver)

During the match B is white and A is black

On the board both players see the following
White stones as silver and black stone and vanilla black.

Now, as for obtaining you could have four ways of getting it to avoid "farmer's"

You get a Certian set at 20k,15k,10k,5k,1k,1dan,3dan,5dan etc.

those arnt much of anything.

then you get some with a time of constent play,
3 months w/ a game every 3-4days
6 months
9 months etc.
12 months.
then incraments of half a year.

Then By getting kpg plus you have acess to a few sets

then winning tornaments.

i know most of this was in the above post. but i like the idea.

Fun with colors would be great. However, If I was asked to give my preference between this and continued efforts on the android client, I'd pick the latter.

I voted to just keep it the way it is. I don't really care that much either way. All you people and your desire for funny colored stones...

You're definitely not the only one. It took me a couple of minutes to understand what everyone was talking about when I logged in on April 1st, since the untextured graphics were unaltered.

I am not interested in weird colors, but I do agree that the two graphics choices are not so good. It should not be hard to add in a few board/stone options. The graphics are already out there, no need to even design new ones. And this would be 100% client side, no change to the server at all.

This has been tops on my personal KGS wishlist for a long time, I post about it now and then when it comes up, but I don't think wms is interested.

I think they look fine now (the textured once)
but if there were more options to chose i would not mind as long as i can just leave them at there default setting.

While I agree with the first part I would really really HATE to see this implemented even though I would not see it because i'm already a KGS+ member

I would enjoy having more of a choice in stone colors. The pink ones were nice and I think some green ones would be good too. The one thing that I fear though, is the idea of them turning into something they could make money from. Id be happy to pay if the money goes toward improving KGS though.
