New 5d Go Streamer/Content Creator

Hello everyone!

If I may do so here, I'd just like to make it known that I've started streaming live commented Go games on Twitch and developing my Youtube channel as well. There's still a lot of work to do, but those interested in watching my Go content have a lot to look forward to and I'm really serious about this. I finally took the plunge to try streaming, and once I did, I felt like I should have started a long time ago :) You can look forward to increasing variety (lessons, game reviews, Q&A etc. - not just live play) and pretty soon a regular schedule as well.

Thanks!

Hi Ben, I enjoy watching strong players stream and it seems like you articulate your thoughts well. I am just one data point, so I'm not criticizing, just letting you know: having background music playing in these videos is a total dealbreaker for me.

I will strongly consider removing the audio then! One other person said that to me, while the others said the opposite. I think my latest stream was a bit on the louder side.

Thanks for the feedback! :)

Hi Ben,

Thanks.
If the stream has no music, each viewer can still play their own music at home.
But if the stream already has music, there's (currently) no easy way for the viewer to remove it from the audio commentary.

That... is a really good point I wasn't thinking about! Thanks!

Thanks :D

Update: I will go without any music for the next stream or two and see how that goes. There's a bit of delay between the next stream and my last one because of being really, really busy over the past week but I'm starting up a regular schedule soon.

I'm thinking of gong with Mondays/Tuesdays (one or both, likely Tuesdays?), Wednesdays, and some Fridays. I took top Go streamers' schedules into account, which is why I'm not going to stream on Saturdays for now even though it's a good day for it. My idea is something like:

Mondays and/or Tuesdays 5pm-9pm
Wednesdays 9pm-12am
(Some) Fridays 7pm-12am

Any input on this or absolutely anything else would be great :study: Thanks all~

I'd love some more opinions on the music vs. no music thing! :)
So far, I'm still getting mixed opinions, and it's troubling. If it were up to me, I'd have music for streams, and none for shorter Youtube-style Go lesson videos. Streams are really long and music can help keep up energy and excitement. But I'm committed to doing as good a job as possible on the streams and build my following, so the viewers' opinions are more important to me. I won't forget to just have fun with it, but I do also want to take it seriously~

Side note - I'll be accepting viewer game challenges for the next stream, as well as Go questions and other types of requests. While I'm not sure if I'll be streaming Monday or Tuesday, Wednesday around 6pm is for sure, and I'll probably use the aforementioned format for at least the next two streams.

Also, I've set up a Patreon => http://patreon.com/benky0.
Thanks!

I don't really have time to watch another streamer, but I'll weigh in on the music question since you are looking for feedback. Personally, if I want music while watching a streamer I turn on my own music. I don't need them playing any. Having said that, I wouldn't mind.

Thanks WiseMouse!

I streamed last night and had no music on whatsoever, which went well this time (it felt a bit awkward the stream before that when I first tried without music, but I think that was more because it was just a slow night). I guess it's just up to the streamer to keep things exciting and engaging enough to render music unnecessary.

Streaming again tonight! Playing games with the viewers~

Ben has quickly become my favorite Go streamer!
His slow (sorry to mention this ;-) ) and steady style with lots and lots of explanations is fantastic.

Hope to see a lot more and thanks for all the time and work you put into this!

I just watched the first video, and also believe it would be better without music. I find it distracting.

Interested comment anyway !

Edit: BTW, what microphone are you using to record your voice?

I watched a few of the later videos and the content is amazing.

I really like the thorough commentary, and unlike Batts' basic series this one doesn't have any artificial bad moves in it.

Daily streams when? :D
