Leela question

I just got a new box, with a Nvidia 1080TI card. The card seems to be functioning well, and I've downloaded various Cuda bits and bobs to use with Visual Studio. I think the driver is pretty up to date.

However, Leela version 0.11.0 doesn't detect the card. Does anyone have any idea how to overcome this?

Hi!

I don't have an answer for you, but just want to mention that Leela does not use Cuda, only OpenCL.

Download and run GPU caps and see if it has the open_cl capability. It's all about software drivers. I have a NVIDIA GTX 1050 and it works fine with Leela.

My GTX 1060 works fine as well.
Make sure you've installed the latest drivers from here https://www.geforce.com/drivers. "Pretty up to date" might not be enough.

Thanks.

I think the CUDA installation insists slightly out of date drivers compared with the ones directly on the website. I'm learning CUDA, so I'd prefer not to change drivers as it may break the CUDA stuff.

I'll have a go in Linux, which may well fix things - the box is dual boot. I hadn't got round to installing a Linux variant at the time of my original post.

as it's a pretty technical question, more about OpenCL or its Windows equivalent than Leela per se, you might have more luck asking around the whizzogeek forums. i tried OpenCL with Fedora 27, got nowhere, and gave up. Besides, i don't need GPU version as Leela CPU-only version beats me just fine, plus i read somewhere that Intel CPUs are faster than my GPU card, whose name i totally forget.

But if you ever receive an intelligible answer about OpenCL from someone, please share it here so i and maybe others can give it another try.
