you could argue that this isn't a Beginner question, but i think it is, as i am a reBeginner and it's my question.

i wish Go didn't have corners, because they make life so troublesome: there's the inside and outside and the left and right as well, making 6 things to have to think about at the same time and i find it difficult enough to chew gum whilst walking, so,..

here, it looks like white is giving black a chance to get in the corner, but how should he/she go about doing that, if at all?

if anyone can speak plain English and say it simply please do so (otherwise forever hold your peace!) - we had a bit of a discussion about it, which you can see in the sgf, but i ended up more confused than ever.

ok, fair enough, but why? too soon? biggger fish to fry? like R2? R2>D2?

I'm only a beginner, but my thought is that trying to develop the left side seems bigger for black than taking the corner. I also feel like black is thin on the bottom side, and any kind of invasion in the corner will likely harm blacks position there, for little territorial gain.

I think not at all, because black is not strong enough on the outside to enter (with profit).

After the honte move of C7 and the white answer C5 other parts of the board are more interesting (P2).

In the game after the black move of E3, white should consider D5 instead of E4.

after E3, D5 is better than either E4 or F3, even though it makes D6 almost look like a nose tesuji,... but it wouldn't be tesuji, because of C6? in fact, far from being a tesuji, it looks like a little dango all by itself, making it worth less than nothing to black.

so the situation after [D6..C6; E3..] is an example of an unusual situation in which reducing liberties (with D5) is stronger than increasing them (with E4 or F3), because white is well-connected and black has 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 separated stones - yecchh!

i guess that means that (a) D6 was wrong direction, and (b) C6 was a good reply to D6, even though at first glance it looks kinda clumsy - although, then again, maybe there's an even better reply to D6 than C6?

i will advise black to either give up the game or buy another copy of Iwamoto's superb Introduction 'cos he's clearly got no idea of what it's all about (sob, sob). Still, at least i was correct to say it was a Beginner's question.

having learned nothing... Nothing! zip, zilch, zero... white gives black 4 corners AND lets him have an easy life in the middle! .. but somehow just squeaks home, more by luck than judgement. Is nothing sacred??
