i just beat leela who's supposed to be a 9 dan computer with the mirror go strategy.
(i'm 6 kyu)

Leela Zero or classic? What time settings/hardware/playouts? Could you share the game.

Maybe it was the old ordinary non-neural net Leela?

i was black with a half point komi in my favor.
its the classic leela rather than leela zero.
time constrants were standard

Not to rain on your parade, but mirror go as black without white getting komi seems like a cheap win. Yes, this demonstrates Leela classic doesn't have the ability to "think outside the box" and come up with some mirror breaking strategy like a strong human could (though would be tough if the mirroring player is equally strong human!), but white would've won with normal komi. (Im assuming Leela classic can correctly understand custom komi as it's just MCTS not value network which hardcodes a komi). There's a guy on KGS I've played a few times who plays mirror go as black with half point white komi which is kinda annoying as it's hard to come up with a counter at 10 secs a move but even then I have the base strategy to fall black on of making the centre dame and then I win rather than lose by half a point (making the centre worth less than 6.5 is easier, then black has to actually work hard to make tengen valuable).
