3rd Go Seigen Cup to go live

It has been announced that the 3rd Go Seigen International Women's Cup has been scheduled to run in Fuzhou City from 26th to 30th September 2020. There seems to be an assumption that these will be mask-to-mask games rather than internet games, though I haven't see that spelled out.

Nakamura Sumire will not be there as she lost a qualifying game with Wu Yiming last December - shame, as she is a lot stronger now, though no doubt Wu is too. Wu herself is only 13 and is the youngest female pro in Chinese history.

The event will be backdropped by a world AI tournament. Haven't seen the entrants' list yet, but I expect this will crowd out the human event on this forum and elsewhere. Shame about that, too....

(Fuzhou is the capital of Fujian prov., which was Go Seigen's ancestral home.)

Is this one of those events for which players from Europe and North America get to compete alongside the big guns?

It was in the 1st term (Natalia Kovaleva and Stephanie Yin). In Term 2 I think the non-Asians were required to go through prelims but got knocked out. But I haven't checked, and I haven't seen this year's list.

Also, I should say that the AI event may just be a match as in Term 1 (then Leela vs Golaxy).

I may get some more details tomorrow if no-one else can fill the gaps.

Dunno about AI. Frankly, I'm not that interested in the strength of AI, now that it's Nth dan or higher. I could be interested in different roads to it, or applications or retro upgrades. I *am* interested in how we could use AI to teach people. But for competition between AIs? Been done.

So, I would follow that competition. Not much into fast games, but I will try to follow that one.

Did China ever "readmit" Go Seigen, BTW?

Take care.

Yes, big time. And Rin Kaiho. Though, in the Chinese Weltanschauung, they'd say they never lost them.
