Another try

Hello again,

after giving Go a try in 2019 and giving up, I'm back again.
Unfortunately I tend to give up on things if they don't come easy to me. When I realized that Go would mean serious study for me, I thought I might spend some time on it later. Like, very much later - when I retire or such

Now I think I'll try again and I hope I can take it more as a game - be willing to be bad at it as long as I have fun.

But I'm not sure it will stay like this, so let's wait and see.
I'll be grateful for any advice, but don't spend too much energy on me - be warned, I might give up any time again.

All those places and apps (Android) to find information have even become more; it is easy to become overwhelmed as a beginner. If you could name a good way/place to start (over) nowadays, that would be good.

Thank you!

That is all it takes - play Go!

Same as with any sport or hobby you need to find time to engage with it. If you don't do when you are starting out then there is good chance that you will never find any time for it ever. With Go the important thing is to actually play games with other people, especially when you start out. If you are really interested to start over again then you should start by playing go for 5-10 hours every week. That is spend time playing instead of talking about playing, thinking about playing, browsing Go books and making your own Go board. Later you can tell us what motivated you :D

Go is a great game; I hope you enjoy it!

In addition to time spent playing, I found that a book explaining the basic concepts helped me to get past the phase where the game felt overwhelming and confusing. My first book was Janice Kim’s Way of the Moving Horse, but there are other good choices as well. There are also videos for beginners if you prefer learning that way, but I don’t have recommendations on that front.

Yes, that's good advice since it's tempting for me to get lost in reading motivating things and forgetting to start.
The just put in the time approach sounds good.
I'll give it two months and judge after that how I like things.

But to be honest I'm watching something- Hiraku no Go. But I'm not counting it as part of playing Go so I think I'm not cheating. ;-)

Thank you both!

In case anyone wants to read a followup, I'm still busy with Go.
I'm not playing as much as I 'should' because I don't like to lose, and I always do. It seems to be some ego thing.
But I've found a few 'real' people I can play and so far losing to them is not that bad. I'd still like to be able to win occasionally, though.

I’m ready to spend a lot of energy helping you even if you just dabble.

That depends on whether you try to read out variations during games.

edit: fixed quotes

'Dabble' seems an appropriate word :)
Thank you

Ah! I got confused with the different quotes. Fixed now!
