This may be a weird idea but what if in countries outside of KTJC, their national go associations merged with they're national shogi将棋☖☗ and xiangqi/janggi associations? Okay, stick with me here . . .

It's just that it makes a lot more sense for scant resources and populations to combine forces than compete. For Go tournaments that usually have extra roomspace when they hold the event, they can simultaneously hold a Shogi tournament and ask the Shogi association to give the tables and boards. This arrangement would be an ultimate win-win for both the Shogi Association and the Igo Association.

afaik, shogi is significantly less popular in the west than Go is (eg. isn't there only a single western shogi pro, ShogiHarbor?)

So the shogi players would likely not be forthcoming.

I'm not sure what you mean by shogi players wouldn't be as forthcoming, since it would be a great way for shogi and xjiangqgi to attach themselves the popularity of igo, this is mostly in their interest
