Life In 19x19

Me being a musician myself, I was just curious if anyone here played as well. I've just been playing the cello the past 7 years, but I've been attempting to learn the piano again. Besides that, I also compose music. What about you guys?

I can play the french horn and the trumpet.

That's cool. Do you play in an orchestra or just for the fun of it?

I have not played publicly for about 8 years, now. These days, I play occasionally for fun (by myself).

Doesn't it get boring to not be in an ensemble after a while though? I didn't make it into my college's symphony this year and ended up getting placed in a sightreading class, and I've been bored out of my mind. I hate not having any concerts or recitals to look forward to. Good thing I'm learning the first movement to the haydn C concerto right now, or else I probably wouldn't be motivated to practice the 2 hrs a day that I'm doing right now. xD

Well, played. I played the violin for a decade before I gave it up to focus on other things. I also played the piano for 7 years before giving that up as well. It's a damn shame it took me so long to realize I was playing these instruments for all the wrong reasons.

Out of curiosity, what are these "wrong reasons" that you speak of? It makes me feel like you were playing the piano for the "dark side" or something...

Ah, no problem. I was just intrigued by the wording.

I played the viola for a few years, but the normal teachers left, and were replaced by the more band-type(is this the right wording?) music teacher(s) who honestly did not seem that interested in what we were doing. Thus, I stopped playing.

I would like to learn the play the piano when I have the time and money for it.

I used to play the harpsichord, but that's already 28 years ago.

cellist here, I also played the guitar, mandolin, and a little bit of clarinet.
