New York Go Centre to be sold?

I read this in the AGA board meeting minutes "Nihon Kiin has been in difficult financial
condition. One of the consequences is the
pending sale of the New York Go Center. The
Seattle Go Center will remain open"
Is it really going to be sold?

And sounds like it's pretty serious, which is too bad. I've never been able to make it to either, but I've wanted to for a while now. (Luckily for me, I'm a little closer to the Seattle one anyway, but that still sucks for everybody else over on the east coast.)

however, according to this thread on rec.games.go
http://groups.google.com/group/rec.game ... 107e28af9#Roy Laird doesn't seem overly concerned about it yet (maybe he missed the board meeting?)

I saw that as well. I would certainly like to see some official confirmation of this. If it's true, it would be a terrible blow to Go in the U.S. and to Iwamoto's legacy.
Also, does anyone have news about San Paulo? The last I heard, there were some building issues that they were having trouble getting repaired.

I think I'm going to head over there this afternoon. I'll report back if I hear anything, but I suspect it will be business as usual (though I haven't been before, so I don't know what that is).

I sincerely hope not, but it probably will eventually. Where would they move? Renting a place in a good part of the city is pretty expensive.

I went this afternoon and there were 10-18 people there throughout the 2-3 hours I was there (i.e., not all at once). And, as suspected, everything seemed "business as usual." I felt very welcomed and was encouraged to come back. I think I will tomorrow.

If you could, ask Vincent (the main host) if there's any truth to the rumors. Glad you had fun though!

I plan to go back today, and I might bring it up. I might be hesitant to bring up such a topic my second time there, but we'll see. Vincent is a really nice guy.

I don't think he minds talking about it. He said he'd get a new place if it shut down, but this was a few months ago when he told me.
