Make it more apparent you got a new message.

Pretty subtle change (from "0 new message" to "1 new message"), especially for something like a PM where it can be important at times. Maybe a pop-up similar to how GD did it perhaps?

Under "Board Preferences" in the User Control Panel, you can make it pop-up a notification when you get a new PM. Maybe we should just change the default value for this?

I'm glad the option is there, but I hate popups.

I don't know whether it is difficult to modify phpBB, but Wikipedia does a fairly nice job of informing users that there are messages in the talk page by displaying a conspicuous top banner, but only once.

As much as I like this site, if I have to start doing work to keep it from popping up extra windows, I won't be hanging out here.

That's why I check the site from work, but don't ever log in until I get home. Would cause me to waste way too much time when I should be working.
