The audio volume in lectures can vary quite a bit based on the teacher's setup, and sometimes it's really quiet even with my computer's volume cranked up to the max. Would it be possible to add some sort of simple gain control to the client side to allow for some amplification in cases where it's just coming through too quiet?

The speex preprocessor offers both noise cancellation and gain control. But I don't know if these features exist in the java port, or only the c version.
