LA winds

We're in one of the many canyons just north of Los Angeles. The winds in the past day have reached almost 100mph around the county. For several hours yesterday the house vibrated and it sounded like roaring jet engines outside - it was like being in a 747 just at the beginning of takeoff roll.
Here, protected by the canyon walls ( about 1/2 mile apart ) we have had no damage. But three blocks away, at the base of the canyon, my relatively unprotected neighbors got clobbered.

Oakland/San Francisco has had some strong winds, too, but nothing like that :o Also they only lasted about a day.

I feel bad for your neighbors. When you take that kind of damage the only answer is tenuki. Maybe they can move to Turkey.

The "Santa Ana winds" have even made it to pop up in the news in Germany. Before that I didn't know what that was, now I know.

Actually, 'Santa Ana' winds are primarily known for their hot and dry character, usually under 30 miles per hour. This one was a freak.

Yeah, the wind was crazy. It knocked out power to a ton of street lights in the city causing some major gridlock (even more than the usual major gridlock). Took me an hour to get from Miracle Mile to downtown this morning at 8:00.
